Boat Launch!
This morning the whole school came out to watch our two new boats, Sea Kiss and Crazy 8, take to the sea. It was a beautiful ceremony!

With our first boat more or less done (it is painted to the primer), we’re moving on to Boat #2! We held a read-a-thon to raise money for materials, and we’ve made great progress. We’re pretty excited that we’ll be setting sail soon!

We have been out of touch for a little while, but we’ve been busy making progress on our boat! We have made it to the painting stage, which means that we are almost done.

Last Friday, we glued all of the wood into the cardboard boat models. We are almost finished with our models, we just have to put the two sides, the bottom, and the seats together to make the model. We had fun and we are excited because we each get to make a model of our own (without help!) and bring it home.

Have you ever built a boat? On Friday, we went down to the gym where Mr. Schade showed us how to build a cardboard boat which is a model for the Peace Canoe, which we are going to build. We drew parts of a canoe on cardboard and cut it out. We used a proportional divider to measure the size we need to build our model. We learned different parts of the boat, like: bow, port, starboard, stern, keel. Next week we’re going to glue our models together and add wooden pieces. After boat building, we wrote in our journals about what we learned.
Come back and read our blog every Monday, and tell your friends to spread the word!
